We’re in the park today and Alex asks to blow bubbles; always a favorite (for the last week or so :) ).

So we find a spot, sit down and pull out the Hello Kitty bubble thing they sell at the local bakery. I ask if its okay for me to hold the bottle and he says Vale! which of course is excellent as he tends to throw the bubble bottle around and lose all of the fluid from the bottle.

He pulls out the loop and makes like the big bad wolf: a big inhale, cheeks puff and Pffffff!. He blows straight thru the loop and no bubbles, because of course the big bad wolf is blowing down a house; bubble blowing is a delicate job.

We’ve had this frustrating problem for a few days and until now I’ve had no success at explaining to him how to blow softly. Until now

The big brainwave of the day was to blow in his face, first hard, indicating that was not the way to do it, and then softly indicating that was the way to do it. Success. He was blowing billions of bubbles in no time.

So there it is. An idea for teaching your child how to blow bubbles if they just don’t get how to blow softly! Now, if I can get him to stop grabbing the bubbles and having them pop in his face (and get in his eyes…)
